Tonya Sakowicz

Even the most brilliant lawyer or accomplished doctor can be brought low by the cries of a tiny baby.  How do you know what they are trying to tell you?  How can you understand what they want?  How can you get them to eat well?  And perhaps foremost in many parents minds:  When am I ever going to get some sleep again?  Tonya Sakowicz, a professional nanny for nearly 21 years, has specialized in helping you decipher exactly what your little ones want and need.  In a very short amount of time, she can help you learn to understand their needs and get a good night’s sleep.  For the past 14 years, Tonya has worked almost exclusively with newborn premature multiples and she has helped hundreds of babies learn to sleep through the night quickly and effectively.  A recent client said:

Hi Tonya, You are seriously THE BEST!  You worked with me in the very beginning with Brady because he was so difficult to sleep train.  I took your advice word for word and honestly... we would not be where we are today without you!  Every thing you told us worked like a charm!!  He seriously went to bed walking with no crying and stayed asleep all night.  If there were times when he was sick, we would do what we needed to and then re-train which only took a night or two! You were the best!  I always tell my husband we were so grateful to have your advice!  Now with our second who is a year now, we followed your advice from the beginning and NEVER had an issue!  He has been a dream and I swear it's because we were firm from the beginning and didn't play games.
I just wanted to say thank you again for your expert advice... you changed our lives!!

Tonya is a Newborn Care Specialist who does both consulting and in-home sleep training for her clients.  She is college educated, has more than 20 years experience and is a mom herself.  In addition to be credentialed through the International Nanny Association where she serves as the Chair of their Nanny to Nanny Mentoring Program, Tonya is frequently asked to speak and teach at their International Conferences.  She has also served as a speaker for the National Association of Nannies, the Valley Professional Nanny Association and for Nanny Agencies Nationwide.  Tonya was voted the Professional Childcare Provider of the Year in 2003 and nominated for the International Nanny Association Nanny of the Year in 2004.  In addition, that same year, she was deeply honored with a nomination by her peers for the National Association of Nannies Harriette Grant Memorial Award.

Services Include:

Reflux/Colic: Do you suspect your child has reflux? Have you been told they have “colic” and there is nothing you can do but to wait it out? I can help!

Because most of my clients have prematurely born babies who suffer from reflux, and with a son of my own who had severe reflux, I have learned the ins and outs of reflux care over the last few years. I can help you develop a plan and discuss treatment options with you to make your baby more comfortable and allow all of you to get more sleep.

Colic is an often unspecific ‘diagnosis’ that doctors give to fussy babies when they don’t know what is wrong. Through careful evaluation, we can work together to determine whether it really is colic (this is actually quite rare!) or whether something else is going on with your baby. I then work with you to develop a plan to help manage and ease the colic symptoms and return some peace to your home and life.

Sleep Issues: My philosophy of sleep is based on over 20 years of work with babies, many of which are premature multiples. I have learned over the years that babies can be safely and effectively taught to sleep through the night at a very early age with a careful and systematic approach that rarely involves much crying. I love to start working with clients the day that their baby comes home from the hospital. However, I do assist with sleep issues with older infants and young toddlers as well. I can provide coaching, a written plan or in some cases, come in and do the training for you. It depends on what your family’s needs and goals are; we review them and develop a plan.

Testimonials:

“I have been sleeping on the sofa with my 11 month old son on my chest for the last 6 months. It was ruining my sleep and my marriage. By following Tonya’s instructions, in only 3 nights, not only was my son sleeping in his crib for the first time ever, but he was sleeping through the night-11 hours!! It saved my sleep, my sanity and my marriage!”

--Glenda, mom of a singleton

“When Tonya first showed me how to swaddle my 7 week old son, I thought she was nuts, but I tried it anyway. I put him down for bed that night and I did not hear a peep out of him for 9 hours. The next night was 11 hours. By following Tonya’s expert guidelines, I have a sleeper that is the envy of all of my friends! (Well, the ones who have not listened to me and called her for help anyway).”

--Lisa, mom of a singleton

“We hired Tonya to help with our triplets before they were even born and it was the best decision we ever made. They were sleeping through the night by 11 weeks of age (NOT adjusted age) and have been great sleepers ever since. Everything she told us was exactly right-on and we will be forever grateful.”

--Rachel, mom of triplets
